A vacant workshop in Stoke-on-Trent could be converted into seven new apartments if a planning application is approved.

Bona Properties Ltd has submitted an application to Stoke-on-Trent City Council to convert a disused workshop on Anchor Place, Longton, into seven residential apartments.

The planning application said: "Parts of the building, in particular its upper floor, are of unsightly appearance, having fallen into dereliction over time."

This application is an altered resubmission of a previous proposal which was rejected by the council on 8 April 2025.

The original proposal was rejected due to a lack of parking provision, insufficient natural light and elevational alterations.

The new proposal explained that three off-street parking spaces would be provided instead of the original one.

Although this remains under the recommended seven spaces, the application stressed that the location had good public transport links and is an estimated five-minute walk from Longton town centre.

The proposal also includes an "improved flow of natural light" and explains that no elevational alterations will be necessary if the plans are approved.

The planning application said: "On the basis of the improvements which have been made to the previously refused scheme, it is therefore concluded that all outstanding issues have been satisfactorily addressed, and that there can now be no reasonable obstacle to the grant of prior approval upon this site.

"As such, the LPA is invited to offer its support to this proposal, and to issue a decision confirming that prior approval is granted, in order to deliver seven new homes, in a highly sustainable location, for the local community."

The proposal also has support from the council's Adult Social Care division who submitted a letter on 2 September.

The letter said: "The Council supports the development locally in order to meet the needs of adults with more complex needs by providing robust accommodation where there is demand in the area with an expectation that this demand will continue."

Stoke-on-Trent City Council planning officers have yet to make a decision on the application.
