Vacant pub in Stoke-on-Trent to be converted into residential accommodation
A vacant pub in Stoke-on-Trent is set to be converted into residential accommodation after plans were approved by the city council.
The Knave of Clubs, in Chell Heath, is currently a former public house with a bar, lounge and two function suites.
To the first floor there are currently two flats, one of the landlord's use and another which is privately rented.
The applicant, Godfrey Barnes Healthcare LLP, has been granted permission to transform the 0.16 hectares site into accommodation for adults with learning disabilities.
The home will be staffed 24 hours a day with 5 staff members on shift at a time and also a registered manager from 9am-5pm.
A planning statement, submitted as part of the application, states: "This home will consist of six large individual self-contained living spaces, designed to provide low stimulus environments, designed to keep the individual and staff team safe, whilst still ensuring a warm and comfortable homely feel.
"Each resident will have their own lounge, double bedroom, ensuite and also access to a communal lounge, kitchen, dining area and lovely garden areas."
Permission was granted for this development to go ahead this week.
The Officer's Report states: "The loss of the public house is not deemed adverse to the community as this venue is currently closed and the change of use would bring this building back into use in the form of a sustainable development."
