A Newcastle-under-Lyme bar branded 'unprofitable' by its owners has closed with immediate effect.

Playhouse, owned by Revolution, opened just over a year ago on Hassell Street, Newcastle.

In a social media statement, Playhouse said: ""We have loved shaking your cocktails and creating some epic gaming memories over the last year, but as of today, 5th January, we will sadly be closing our doors in Playhouse Newcastle-Under-Lyme.

"We wanted to extend an enormous thank you for joining the Playhouse journey.

"Thank you, and goodbye."

Playhouse shared a thank you message on social media when it closed its doors (Playhouse).

Playhouse is not the only 'unprofitable' bar, a total of eight Revolution bars have, or will be, closing, including branches in Beaconsfield, Derby, Reading, St Peters Liverpool and Wilmslow.

Rob Pitcher, CEO of Revolution Bars Group, said: "We have taken the difficult yet ultimately beneficial step for the Group to close several bars which are unprofitable.

Our teams do a terrific job in making guests welcome and giving them a great experience and again we have demonstrated that when our customer base can afford to do so, they are choosing to celebrate with us, and we have delivered record levels of guest satisfaction. This should bode well for the future."
