The Potteries Museum and Art Gallery is set to partially reopen this month as a new display is launched in the cafe.

From Saturday 28 March, managed entry will be in place to allow visitors to one again access some 'key spaces' in the museum including the Spitfire Gallery, the Forum Theatre and Violet's Café.

Councillor Sarah Hill, cabinet member for finance, anti-poverty and corporate services at Stoke-on-Trent City Council, said: "With the Spitfire Gallery, theatre and café reopening, it means residents and visitors can once again enjoy some of the museum's most loved spaces while we continue investing in its long-term future."

A new display, called 'Our Favourite Things', will also be launched in the café space, giving visitors a chance to see items from the museum's collection, which have been 'handpicked' by the museum team.

Cllr Hill added: "The new display gives visitors the chance to see the objects that mean the most to our team and that help tell the story of Stoke-on-Trent."

Improvement works will continue elsewhere in the building, as part of the museum's £5 million redevelopment, delivered by Seddon and funded by Arts Council England and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through the Cultural Development Fund.

However, alongside the partial reopening, some events will return to the museum this March.

The Cult Film Club will return from Friday 27 March with the film Stand by Me and a new programme of short films and documentary screenings is being developed in collaboration with Ray Johnson of Staffordshire Film Archive.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council explained that details about the reopening of the Stoke-on-Trent City Archives Reading Room "will be announced in due course" and limited onsite access is available for urgent statutory legal or other time-sensitive requirements, where no digital or remote service is suitable.
