Ten weeks of "vital roadworks" have started on the Eaton Park estate in Stoke-on-Trent today (24 June).

Temporary traffic lights are in place on Arbourfield Drive as the bridge over the former railway line is being resurfaced.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council contractors estimate that the work will take around ten weeks.

A spokesperson for the council said: "It is going to cause disruption but we've chosen this start date so the bulk of the work can be done during the school summer holidays.

"But due to the way Eaton Park was built, Arbourfield Drive is the only road motorists can use so it is going to mean delays for some journeys.

"This work is part of our essential planned maintenance programme and needs to be done. We are doing everything we can do in advance to inform residents and businesses.

"Motorists are being asked for their patience and understanding during this time and to plan journeys in advance."
