Teenager charged following fatal Stoke hit-and-run

A 17-year-old boy has been charged after an alleged hit-and-run in Stoke which resulted in the death of teenager Alex Woodward. 

The teenager from Longton, who cannot be named legally because of his age, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident, failing to report an accident, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance. 

Police were called to Dawlish Drive, Bentilee, at about 6.05pm on Friday 17 October following reports of a crash. 

Alex Woodward, 17, died as a result of his injuries in hospital the next morning. 

The teenager who has been charged is due to appear at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre today. 

A 20-year-old woman, from an area near Werrington, who was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice, has been bailed with conditions. 

Two other boys, aged 17 and 16, from Stoke-on-Trent, who were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, have been released under investigation.
