Stoke Reads, a local National Literacy Trust hub, is partnering with libraries across Stoke-on-Trent to host a city-wide library takeover tomorrow (4 March).

Through these family storytelling sessions, Stoke Reads is aiming to root World Book Day back into the community and remove financial and social barriers which stop families from engaging.

Storytellers will be holding sessions in libraries across Stoke-on-Trent tomorrow (Stoke Reads).

Hub Manager, Lois Bateman, told Stoke Nub News: "Engaging children on World Book Day can open them up to a lifetime love of books and reading, improve their literacy levels, and break the intergenerational cycle of poverty.

"Book gifting is crucial as recent research shows that nearly 1 in 11 (8.5%) 8 – 18 year olds in the West Midlands are without a book of their own at home, a figure that far surpasses the national average of 1 in 15.

"Providing children and young people books, alongside positive and inclusive experiences with literacy, is vital to improving chances in life."

Visitors can expect a line-up of award-winning poets, actors and theatre makers, find out which storyteller will be at your local library here.

Every child will take away their own World Book Day book, bookmark and activity pack.

Families can book their free ticket by contacting their local library or by messaging Stoke-on-Trent Libraries Facebook page.
