A shoe repair shop in Stoke-on-Trent has skillfully restored an old pair of period boots for a local tour guide.

Steve and Janet, owners of Wilshaws in Stoke, have nearly 80 years of shoe repair experience between them and recently opened their own shop after working locally for 44 and 33 years.

They have spent the first few months in their own shop repairing shoes, engraving trophies and offering a huge range of keys.

Most recently, the pair restored a pair of old period boots for a customer who works as a tour guide at Chatterley Whitfield, on Carsington Drive.

The shoes were purchased by the customer's grandad in 1910 and cost four shillings and thruppence.

The shoes have been worn by three generations and only took a couple of days to restore (Wilshaws).

Janet told Nub News: "They were bought by his grandad in Stoke and then they were worn by his dad who was a miner and now he wears them when he dresses up as a miner at Chatterley Whitfield Colliery Heritage Centre.

"He's had them cleaned up for his work and it only took a couple of days"

Wilshaws is open 9am-5pm on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 9.30am-3.30pm on a Saturday.
