Howard Place was closed where it meets Stoke Road in both directions this morning while firefighters extinguished a building fire near Shelton.

Three fire crews and an aerial ladder platform were tackling the blaze off Pyenest Street, which started just after 6am on Monday 5 May.

Severn Trent has told residents living near the fire to expect disruption to their water supply while crews use fire hydrants in the area.

The fire appears to have started in a building off Pyenest Street behind both Coffee & Chai cafe and Chico's Peri Grill.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council had said Pyenest Street would be closed from 1 May following years of ongoing issues with anti-social behaviour and illegal dumping.

But the concrete barriers, which will be used to block the road off, are not yet in place.

Howard Place/Stoke Road has since reopened.

Stoke Nub News has approached Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service for an update.

The fire has ripped through the roof of the building. (Nub News)
