Stoke-on-Trent named one of the UK’s most expensive cities to charge an EV

A new report has found Stoke-on-Trent is one of the most expensive cities in the UK to charge an electric vehicle at public charging points.
The data found that EV drivers in Stoke-on-Trent are paying an average of £26.32 to charge just half a battery which is 18% above the national average of £22.32.
The research was collated by used car experts at Available Car and mapped the price and speed of charging from the charging app, ZapMap.
Topping the list was Cambridge with an average cost of £45.52 to charge half a battery, followed by Wakefield at £29.39 and Southend at £29.05 with Stoke-on-Trent claiming the fourth highest cost.
Stoke-on-Trent also ranked as the 8th fastest city to charge an EV - with times averaging 2 hours and 25 minutes to top up half a battery.
The government announced in March that the UK has passed the milestone of 75,000 charging points with a new charger added to the network every 29 minutes.
In addition, thirteen local authorities across the Midlands, including Stoke-on-Trent City Council, have secured a combined £40.8 million in government funding to install more electric vehicle charging infrastructure.
Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood, said: "Making charging as seamless and as easy as possible is crucial to making the switch to electric a success and rolling out over 16,000 chargers across the Midlands will make driving an EV cheaper and easier, especially for those without a driveway.
"Electric vehicles will power growth, cut emissions and improve lives in the Midlands and beyond as we continue to deliver our Plan for Change."
