A Stoke-on-Trent school showed strong standards across the board in its latest Ofsted inspection.

Pupils at Co-op Academy Hamilton were praised for their behaviour, kindness and respect while school leaders were found to "reduce barriers to learning and wellbeing effectively".

The report from the Birches Head school's inspection has recently been published.

Inspectors found it had met a strong standard in achievement, attendance and behaviour, curriculum and learning, early years, inclusion, leadership and governance and personal development and wellbeing, although leaders were advised they should ensure that the school's expansion into Key Stage Two (Years Three to Six) is managed effectively so that the existing high standards of provision are sustained and built on.

The report said: "Guided by the 'MAGIC' values of motivation, attitude, gumption, independence and communication, pupils flourish at this highly inclusive school. Pupils feel proud to belong to a warm and welcoming community.

"Pupils trust staff to support them if they have any worries. This nurturing environment supports pupils' happiness, confidence and emotional wellbeing.

"Pupils achieve very highly across an ambitious and enriched curriculum that begins in early years. Learning is engaging and relevant (and) it is carefully sequenced so knowledge builds over time.

"Leaders reduce barriers to learning and wellbeing effectively. Disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities access learning fully, they thrive alongside their peers.

"Pupils behave very well (and) their attendance is high. Pupils show kindness and respect and reflect the school's values consistently.

"Staff identify and remove individual barriers by working in close partnership with parents and carers – this helps pupils feel supported and valued. As a result, overall attendance is above national figures.

"This includes attendance for disadvantaged pupils and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. Pupils enjoy coming to school and engage positively with learning and wider school life."

The report also commended the school's culture and values, describing breaktimes and lunchtimes as "joyful and harmonious" and recognising the way pupils consistently demonstrate kindness, respect and positive attitudes to learning.

The inspection result has been welcomed by the school and Co-op Academies Trust. Dr Chris Tomlinson, CEO of Co-op Academies Trust, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for everyone connected with Co-op Academy Hamilton.

"To be recognised as operating at a Strong Standard in every category is a reflection of the relentless commitment of colleagues, pupils and families. What stands out throughout the report is the impact the school is having on children's lives.

"Inspectors saw a school where pupils thrive, where inclusion shapes daily life and where every child is supported to achieve their very best. We are incredibly proud of the whole school community and staff team, this is richly deserved and well earned."

Headteacher Yvonne Glaister said: "We are incredibly proud of this report because it reflects what our school community works so hard to achieve every day. We want every child to feel happy, safe, supported and able to succeed, regardless of their starting point or circumstances.

"The report recognises the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our pupils and the fantastic support we receive from families. It is especially pleasing to see our inclusive approach and strong relationships highlighted so positively by inspectors."
