A Stoke-on-Trent school has paid tribute to its "passionate and committed" former headteacher who has sadly passed away aged 48.

Thistley Hough Academy announced the passing of Mrs. Holly Hartley this morning (12 July) and has paid tribute to her on Facebook.

The school wrote: "It is with deep sorrow that I inform our community of the passing of our former principal, Mrs. Holly Hartley, at the age of 48.

"Mrs. Hartley valiantly battled cancer, demonstrating the same resilience and strength she was known for in her time at our school.".

Thistley Hough Academy has paid tribute to its former principal (Google).

Mrs. Hartley was appointed less than a month before the predecessor school was placed into Special Measures in April 2012.

Since this time, she has overseen a period of significant change and reconstruction at the Academy. Thistley Hough was removed from Special Measures in May 2013 under Mrs. Hartley's leadership.

Thistley Hough described Mrs. Hartley as "a passionate and committed educationalist [...] driven by a desire to improve the life chances of all pupils."
