Stoke-on-Trent school closed with 'immediate effect'

A Stoke-on-Trent school has closed with 'immediate effect' while checks are carried out on the building.
Parents were notified yesterday evening (9 June) that Goldenhill Primary Academy, on Broadfield Rd, would not open today as a 'precautionary measure'.
It comes as parents say the nursery class was sent home early on Wednesday and the year 6 leavers' event, due to be held at the school today, is now without a venue.
The school says the decision to close has been taken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of pupils, staff and visitors.
A message from the school said: "Dear parents and carers, following further advice and as a precautionary measure, it has been deemed necessary to close the whole school with immediate effect.
"This decision has been taken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our pupils, staff and visitors whilst additional checks are carried out on the building.
"We understand the inconvenience that this is likely to cause and sincerely apologise.
"Please be assured that we are working closely with the relevant authorities to resolve the matter as quickly and safely as possible.
"We aim to reopen the school as soon as it is safe to do so and will keep you updated. Thank you for your continued support and understanding."
Stoke Nub News has approached The Societus Trust, which runs the school, for comment.
