A Stoke-on-Trent school which closed with 'immediate effect' due to cracks in the walls will reopen on Friday.

Goldenhill Primary Academy informed parents that the cracks were related to a build-up of heat in the roof of the school building following periods of hot weather in the city.

The school assured action is being taken to rectify the issue and that ventilation solutions for the roof are being sought.

It comes after structural specialists were called in on Thursday morning (10 July) to asses the safety of the building following internal and external cracks which had appeared over the last two days.

A message to parents from head teacher Mr Steve Martin added: "We would like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude for your understanding and support during this time. As you are aware, the safety of our children and staff is and will always be our top priority.

"We are committed to ensuring that our school environment is safe and conducive to learning for everyone."

Goldenhill Primary Academy will reopen to all year groups from Friday 11 July.
