A popular Stoke-on-Trent pub is reopening this evening with a new 'sports bar' after its latest revamp.

The Saracens Head in Meir has been closed since 23 June for the renovation, which included the installation of new live sports screens, an interactive darts board and the introduction of a Redtooth Poker league.

It reopens on Friday evening (11 July) from 6:30pm with a special appearance from Lou Macari, live entertainment and a new menu.

The pub, on Sandon Road, is run by Paul and Emma Tunstall, who took over full-time two years ago after working there under its previous owner.

Paul said: "We're changing it up from more of a restaurant style to more of a sports bar feel. So we're having Sky Sports, TNT, a full interactive darts board and new gaming machines.

"The menu is more of a mixed menu so like pizzas, smash burgers, chicken wings, rather than classic pub food. We have a big 70-inch TV going in as well.

"We hope to be showing all the sports in here including the boxing so it will be a really good atmosphere for everyone."

The pub will be showing live sport and hositng live entertainment on weekends. (Nub News)

The Saracens Head also underwent a full refurbishment in 2023 with a brand-new bar setup added along with TVs and a pool table, costing £320,000.

Included on the new menu is a range of burgers, pizzas, small bites and desserts, including brownies, waffles and lemon meringue tart. As well, there will be a new 'wings of flame' chicken wing challenge.

Emma said: "We will be having live entertainment every weekend and family karaoke. We want it to be more community and family orientated and next summer we are planning to have the garden renovated so we can make it a place where the kids can go."

The last ful refurbishment included the addition of a new pool table. (Nub News)

Paul and Emma are expecting it to be a busy opening night on Friday.

Paul added: "Lou has volunteered to come down on Friday and do a meet and greet here. He has been a couple of times before, so he knows the pub quite well."
