The MPs for Stoke on Trent North and Kidsgrove, Stoke-on-Trent Central, and Stoke-on-Trent South, have responded to the 2025 Budget.

The comments from the three Labour MP's follows the delivery of the Budget on Wednesday 26 November by Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves.

The Budget included policies such as scrapping the two-child benefit cap, an increase in National Minimum Wage and Living Wage, and freezing rail fares.

David Williams, MP for Stoke-on-Trent North & Kidsgrove

David Williams, MP for Stoke-on-Trent North and Kidsgrove supported the Budget explaining that it supports families in the city and delivers 'justice' for mineworkers.

He said: "This Budget sets out real, practical support for families, working people and pensioners across Stoke-on-Trent North and Kidsgrove.

"From April, household energy bills will fall by an average of £150. After years of spiralling costs, this will bring much-needed relief to households still living with the consequences of the Conservative cost-of-living crisis.

"It goes hand-in-glove with Labour's long-term plan to cut dependence on foreign fossil fuels to build a clean, secure British energy system that creates jobs here at home.

"I strongly welcome the scrapping of the two-child benefit cap from April.

"This change will ease pressure on thousands of low-income households and lift children out of poverty. More than 4,000 children in Stoke-on-Trent North and Kidsgrove will benefit. "It was never right that children paid the price for their parents' circumstances, and this decision reflects the values of fairness and decency that local people expect.

"Today also delivers justice for the mineworkers who powered our country.

"The return of the £2.3 million BCSSS Investment Reserve is the result of sustained lobbying from Labour Coalfields MPs.

"More than 800 local BCSSS pensioners will benefit directly. After years of being denied what they were owed, this Government has finally put things right.

"The inflation-busting 4.8 per cent rise in the State Pension is another important step that will help thousands more local pensioners with the cost of living.

"Investment in children and young people is also clear, with new funding for school libraries and safer, more accessible playgrounds across England.

"Every child deserves spaces that inspire learning, confidence and creativity; this Budget reflects that priority.

"This is a Budget rooted in fairness, security and opportunity. I will continue to stand up for our community to ensure that Stoke-on-Trent North and Kidsgrove receives its fair share."

Gareth Snell, MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central

Gareth Snell, MP for Stoke-on-Trent Central also welcomed many measures in the Budget but also said that he would scrutinise the impact of the Gambling Levies on Bet365.

He said: "I welcome the measures in the Budget that will make a real difference for people in Stoke-on-Trent Central.

"Lifting thousands of local children out of poverty, reducing home energy bills by £150, and increasing both the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage, are steps in the right direction.

"I also support the introduction of a high-value council tax surcharge on properties worth more than £2 million, provided that the revenue raised is redistributed to areas like Stoke-on-Trent.

"This would reinforce the Government's commitment to fairer funding for councils, following the Fairer Funding Review, which rightly aims to align resources with need and deprivation while recognising local capacity to raise funds.

"Finally, I will be scrutinising the details of changes to Gambling Levies to understand their impact on BET365, the largest employer in our constituency."

Dr Allison Gardner, MP for Stoke-on-Trent South

MP for Stoke-on-Trent South, Allison Gardner, described the Budget as a decisive plan that tackles systemic poverty, honours workers, and builds economic security for Stoke-on-Trent South and the villages.

The MP said: "This is Labour delivering positive change, and this Budget is truly transformative for Stoke-on-Trent South.

"By delivering on our promise to scrap the unfair two-child cap, we are directly investing in the future of our most vulnerable children.

"In areas like Normacott, where child poverty rates are tragically high at 76%, this change will lift hundreds of families out of desperate poverty."

"This decision is a statement of our values, we will not punish children for the circumstance of their birth. It will lead to the largest expected reduction in child poverty over a single parliament since comparable records began.

"This money was owed to the people who powered our country, including the men and women who made the mines run.

"It is a historic wrong finally put right providing an immediate and much-needed boost to the pensions of mining families right here in Stoke-on-Trent South.

"We have kept our promise to working people, there will be no rises to Income Tax, VAT, or National Insurance. Instead, we are funding these reforms by making sure those with the most wealth contribute the most. These are fair choices.

"This is responsible governance. This is the positive change that Stoke-on-Trent South voted for."
