The Hive, in Blurton, has a small car park which is now permit only with parking cameras (LDRS).

A Stoke-on-Trent community centre has been forced to install parking cameras to prevent abuse.

The Hive in Blurton who host a range of activities everyday have claimed that due to people leaving their car in the car park people using the centre have been unable to park at the facility.

The Finstock Avenue based centre has a small car park for users to use but it has been claimed that people have been using the car park and travelling to Rotherham, this means a space is out of action for the whole day. The parking camera is set to go online.

Due to the limited capacity of the car park it is the case that disabled users and parents with pushchairs have been forced to cross the busy road and taking this measure will free up spaces for them. Previous attempts have been made to ask people who are parking but not using the centre not to park there but have been met with abuse and hasn't made an impact.

The centre holds regular community events including a community lounge on a Tuesday between 10.30 am and 3pm. The lounge acts as a warm welcoming space with hot drinks and toast plus a foodbank and advice services being present.

A spokesperson for The Hive said: "We haven't got enough parking for people who use the centre and we've had to restrict the people who can come on it. We support the MS Society and stuff when they go into the Hub and we've issued permits for them.

"It's just to make sure it's fair and square. This road is a very, busy, horrible road and there's a pedestrian crossing that people ignore, there are people going around on e-scooters ignoring stuff and I'm not willing to let our participants have to cross a road when we've got perfectly adequate parking."
