A consultation has been launched on whether to install double yellow lines on a Stoke-on-Trent estate.
Darwin Drive off the busy Scotia Road in Burslem already has double yellow lines installed on one side of the road as you enter from Scotia Road.
These proposals would mean that lines are expanding to both sides which would completely eliminate the ability to park. This shouldn't be a problem for many residents living in the area as many of them have private driveways or a shared car park.
However, those that have multiple cars or guests visiting will be impacted. The proposals will affect resident Wirya Huan who has two cars but only one garage and therefore parks on the road.
He said: "I don't think it's a good idea, we have two cars, if they make it double yellow lines it's not going to be good. I have a garage but we need two cars as well because I go to work and my wife takes the kids to school."
The double yellow lines will extend on the south side at the junction of Darwin Drive and Scotia Road for 91 metres and on the side will extend 22 metres and will extend around the corner of Darwin Drive. This in combination with the other parking restrictions on the road will make it extremely hard to be able to park on the road.
Stoke-on-Trent City Council have said that the consultation has been launched following feedback from residents and to increase road safety. Residents have reported that getting on and off the estate can be challenging due to cars which narrow the road.
Carole Rogers commented: "It can be difficult sometimes to drive around the cars. Luckily I don't live where it will be affected but I can see it causing some trouble for people living right on top of it."
Councillor Amjid Wazir, cabinet member for city pride, enforcement and sustainability said: "We have recently advertised two traffic orders with proposals for double yellow lines on Darwin Drive. This was done after listening to feedback from local residents around the difficulties of getting on and off the estate due to parked vehicles.
"The traffic order will increase road safety and enable residents, visitors and delivery drivers to access the estate more easily."
The consultation ends 15 January anyone wishing to support or object to the implementation of the no waiting zone should contact Stoke-on-Trent City Council or email [email protected], quoting reference: DF/NM/TRO11/2023
