A choir based in Stoke-on-Trent is to represent the city at a world championship after winning silver at a European competition.

Six Town Sound, a barbershop chorus formed two years ago, won silver at the Barbershop of Iberia Association (BIBA) Convention 2025 in Spain - the first choir from Stoke-on-Trent to achieve such a result on the international barbershop stage.

Their score of 86% qualifies them to represent the city at the world championships in St. Louis, Missouri, USA, in 2026.

Musical director, Duncan Whinyates, said: "We are absolutely thrilled.

"To come away with a silver medal and a score like this is beyond anything we imagined — and to be the first barbershop choir from Stoke to reach this level makes it even more special.

"We're proud to be flying the flag for our hometown."

Since Six Town Sound was established in 2023, the growing number of members have won numerous local, national and international competitions.

This year's BIBA competition also saw Sheffield's Steel City Voices take gold and Silver Lining Chorus from Coventry win bronze in the International competition.

With their qualifying score secured, Six Town Sound, which rehearses in Longton, now looks ahead with excitement as they await the opportunity to be invited to represent their chorus, their city, and their country on the world stage in St. Louis.

Six Town Sound are also heading to Harrogate in October to compete in the national competition at the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS) annual convention.

Always on the look out for new talented members, they are open to upper voice singers with a passion for music — no experience required.
