A Stoke-on-Trent arts organisation is hoping to help tackle the climate crisis – one sip at a time.

The monthly 'climate cafe', organised by B.Arts and hosted in their building at 72 Harthill Rd, Stoke, aims to create a space for local people to take part in workshops, discussions and craft activities that explore ideas around climate justice.

B.Arts are a participatory arts organisation who work from their building in Stoke, as well as out in the community to produce theatre productions, workshops, outdoor arts, and lantern parades as well as the monthly cafe.

Rebecca, co-artistic director of B.Arts, explained why the organisation chose to design their community cafe around the themes of sustainability and the environment.

She said: "It is important to us as individuals and artists, but we are also a participatory organisation and when we run youth and community projects, we find that people are really interested in growing, having access to clean air, green spaces and waste.

"These are all big issues and it's not always easy to see how to be a part of that conversation."

The event, usually hosted on the first Saturday of the month, is open to all ages with free craft activities, a 'pay what you can' community meal, a clothes, book and toy swap, and live music from the Changes music group.

B.Arts also regularly work with other organisations such as Staffordshire Wildlife Trust and the Trent Water Scheme.

There is a theme for each event and on Saturday 7 February, the theme was 'Love Letter to a Green Space'.

Co-artistic director, Kath said: "There is always a theme and this month it is 'Love Letter to a Green Space' so all the activities are asking people to think about a green space that is really special to them.

"At Climate Cafe all of the artists and contributors are asked to think about sustainability and climate justice."

The craft activities on offer in February included opportunities to make clay garden guardians, to make birds and insects out of recycled materials, and to decorate jars labelled with a 'love letter to a green space'.
