Stoke homelessness charity launches food club for young people thanks to community grant
A homelessness charity in Stoke-on-Trent is providing their younger customers with a new food club thanks to support from Tesco Hanley's community grant project.
Concrete, part of Honeycomb Group, works with people across Stoke-on-Trent who have been impacted by homelessness and complex needs.
This month, thanks to support from Tesco's Community Grant scheme, Concrete have received £500 to spend on a food club at their young person's service. Tesco shoppers are invited to vote for a local good cause with the supermarket's blue tokens, which supported Concrete to secure the grant.
The food club will be available to all of Concrete's young people, giving them access to lots of essential items. They'll have the opportunity to increase their cooking skills, learn how to make healthy meals from scratch and enjoy mealtimes together as a group.
Concrete Operations Manager Anna Mather said: "We're thrilled to have secured £500 from Tesco Community Grants. The whole team are so grateful to shoppers at Tesco Hanley for supporting our service with their blue tokens.
"The money will go towards a food club for customers at our young person's service. The young people that we support have already been through a lot, even at such young ages. Some of them are care leavers, others are unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.
"Thanks to the support of initiatives like the Tesco Community Grants scheme, we can make sure that all of their essentials, like food, are covered. This means they can focus on starting new chapters and working towards confident futures."
Claire de Silva, Tesco's Head of Community, said: "Tesco Community Grants help support local good causes like Concrete and especially those projects supporting young people, those providing food, and local causes close to our colleagues' hearts."
