The Staffordshire oatcake was in the spotlight after being featured on the BBC's 'Inside the Factory' programme.

Povey's Oatcakes on Biddulph High Street welcomed historian Ruth Goodman as she uncovered the history of the Stokie delicacy.

The programme also featured Glenn and Sue Fowler, the former owners of the last remaining hole-in-the-wall oatcake shop which closed in 2012.

Glenn told Ruth Goodman: "We succeeded for thirty years. We had them queuing all the way down the road and back."

The pair ran the iconic Waterloo Street business from 1981 until it closed when the site was earmarked for demolition as part of a council regeneration project.

Adam Povey took over the 31-year-old business following the death of his father (Povey's Oatcakes).

Oatcakes had been sold through the window there since the 1920s and over 5,000 people signed a petition to save the shop.

Povey's owner, Adam Povey, also explained how Stokies are now more likely to order their oatcakes through delivery apps and many phone in their order beforehand.

Adam took over the 31-year-old business following the death of his dad Steve and the business now distributes oatcakes across the country.

They are even now being sold to expats who miss their oatcake fix, according to Povey's website.

The episode aired on BBC1 from 8pm on Tuesday, January 21 and is available on BBC iPlayer.
