A popular business in Staffordshire is celebrating after receiving a well-earned five-star hygiene rating.

Rupeyal, on Congleton Road in Biddulph, was inspected on 27 February 2024 and a food safety officer from the council found 'very good' standards at the busy takeaway.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:

  • How hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • The physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
  • How the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.

Rupeyal owner, Mohammed, took over the business around 24 years ago and he prides himself on his clean premises.

Mohammed said: "We've only got a small space to work with but we keep it clean and organised.

"All of our produce is locally sourced, everything is freshly made to order and we cater for many different tastes."

The local business is also very popular with its customers - it has almost 5,000 reviews on its website, with an average rating of 4.9 out of 5.

Rupeyal is open 4.30pm-12.20pm Sunday to Thursday and 4.30pm-1.40am Friday and Saturday.
