The winner of the Great British Sewing Bee has dedicated her final design to staff at the trust which runs the Royal Stoke.

Caz, from Staffordshire, was crowned the winner of the 11th series by judges Esme Young and Patrick Grant this week.

The 60-year-old underwent heart surgery at the Royal Stoke four years ago and the final design she created was presented as a thank you to the teams who cared for her.

The dress featured a golden external ribcage and heart, which was recognised by judge Patrick Grant as a "masterpiece" with "incredible drama", commending her courage, flair and technique.

Caz said: "I wanted to share the biggest thank you in the world to the staff at UHNM who looked after me, they do not know what a difference they make to me and everybody.

"I cannot speak highly enough of staff at every single level, from the caterers and the cleaners to the doctors and nurses- they were all brilliant.

"Every day I'd go to bed and wake up being so grateful but didn't do anything to say thank you.

"When this all came up, I immediately knew what I wanted to do, and it seemed a perfect way to publicly say thank you."

Caz had scooped 'garment of the week' three times during the series on Kids Week, Icons Week and Korea Week.

The Great British Sewing Bee, where amateur sewers compete to be crowned the country's most sensational seamster, airs on BB1 and is also available on the BBC iPlayer.
