Drivers face months of disruption as Severn Trent prepares to close Ford Green Road as part of an ongoing £25 million upgrade project.

The water giant held a public consultation over plans to replace miles of water pipes on the busy Smallthorne Bank, which will see Ford Green Road closed for 12 weeks.

The works, due to begin in June, will introduce a one-way system allowing traffic from Norton towards Smallthorne to continue.

However, drivers travelling in the opposite direction will face diversions. The company says that activity will be focused between the junctions of North West Terrace and Kirk Street.

The £25 million project is seeing 23 miles of new pipes installed across the city. Signs have already been put up warning motorists of the works, which are set to start on 15 June.

Works have already been carried out on nearby Hanley Road and crews have recently finished on Leek New Road in Sneyd Green. The consultation was held yesterday (18 May) from 3pm until 6.30pm.

The event was attended by just six people who wanted to know more about the project and the impact it would have.

A spokesperson for Severn Trent said: "We know the water pipe works across Stoke-on-Trent have been going on for some time now and we understand how frustrating and tiring that can be.

"Thank you to everyone who's shared feedback with us – we've listened, and we want to explain what's planned next and what this means for you."

The next consultation event is scheduled for after the works have started on 18 June at The Salvation Army on Camp Road between 3pm and 6.30pm.
