Severn Trent is set to begin the next phase of works to replace water pipes in Stoke-on-Trent.

After completing work on Keelings Road "earlier than planned", Severn Trent has announced that teams are preparing to move on to the next stretch between Town Road and Old Town Road.

The work is expected to continue until 15 May with Severn Trent and its contractor McAndrew Utilities "working hard to minimise disruption throughout".

A lane closure will be in place between Hulton Street and Old Town Road but traffic will still be able to flow in both directions.

Severn Trent explained that those travelling north from Hanley along Town Road will use the bus lane under temporary traffic light control, to keep "the area moving while work progresses".

Access on the new phase of works will be maintained for residents, businesses and emergency services, and all shops will remain open as usual.

The junction with Plough Street will be temporarily closed, while Greville Street residents will continue to have access to their homes.

Dylan Latham, Severn Trent project manager, said: "We're pleased with the progress being made in Stoke-on-Trent and want to thank everyone for their continued patience and support.

"Finishing the latest phase early means we're able to move forward sooner with delivering long-lasting improvements that will benefit the whole community.

"We appreciate this type of work can be disruptive, and we're doing everything we can to keep the area moving while investing in a stronger, more reliable water network for the future."

This is latest phase of works in Severn Trent's £25 million investment to secure a reliable water supply for communities across Stoke-on-Trent has completed ahead of schedule.

The work is part of a £25 million Severn Trent programme, spanning Hanley, Sneyd Green and Burslem, to see around 40km of water pipes replaced with "brand-new, resilient" mains.

Severn Trent has encouraged those with accessibility requirements to speak to the onsite team and explained that businesses that rely on visiting customers can also access help through the company's Business Loss Team if they believe the works are affecting trade.

Updates on the scheme will be shared on the Severn Trent website here and the Nextdoor app.
