Changes have been made to some Stoke-on-Trent roadworks after Severn Trent "received a lot of feedback over the last few days about traffic congestion and access in the area".

Severn Trent has now made a number of changes to the roadworks taking place in Birches Head and Sneyd Green after reviewing the situation with Stoke-on-Trent Highways.

From Friday 23 January Barthomley Road has become one way only. Drivers must enter from Birches Head Road and exit onto Hanley Road with no turn from Hanley Road into Barthomley Road.

From Monday 2 February the Acton Street and Cromwell Street junctions will re-open to give more ways out of Birches Head Estate.

Kelvin Avenue will stay closed so it can't be used as a shortcut or diversion route

Severn Trent said: "No further road works will start in the Birches Head Estate until Chell Street and Hanley Road are flowing in both directions.

"When work on Chell Street finishes (currently 20 February), Chell Street and Hanley Road will return to two-way traffic.

"Any future works within the Birches Head Estate will be planned once this change is in place."

Severn Trent also said that they looked into adding traffic lights at the Barthomley Road/Hanley Road junction with Highways, but determined that this would slow traffic further on this main road rather than improve flow.

Severn Trent added: "These arrangements will be kept under review as the works continue.

"Please follow road signs and barriers at all times, even if routes feel familiar."
