Roadworks are set to commence this week on Weston Road, between Park Hall Road and the City boundary at Leek Road.

Last week we reported that the road would be closed between Park Hall Road and Leek Road between 29 July and 13 September, but this morning (23 July) the council confirmed even more works were planned for Weston Road.

A spokesperson for the city council said: "The works will be split into four projects, and will start on staggered days as follows:

  • Wednesday 24 July – CCTV and jetting of the existing drainage network.
  • Thursday 25 July – The works compound will be set up on the grassed area opposite Park Avenue.
  • Sunday 28 July – Traffic Management signage will be distributed along the diversion route.
  • Monday 29 July – Phase two works start and the road closure comes into force.

"The purpose of the initial works is to check the condition of the existing network and to ensure it is in good working order, with any repairs being picked up during this time.

A section of Weston Road will be closed between 29 July and 13 September (Nub News).

"Phase two includes removing gullies and replacing them with a kerb drainage system. This process is essential as the area is susceptible to heavy traffic and will minimise the need for repairs in the future. Following this work, the carriageway will be resurfaced."

Councillor Finlay Gordon-McCusker, cabinet member for Transport, Infrastructure and Regeneration advised: "The key priority for our team is getting the work completed thoroughly and effectively. The works have been planned to coincide with the school holidays to minimise disruption.

"We know this work is needed to help improve the road network in this area, and will make a noticeable difference for all road users and local residents.

"We thank residents and road users for their patience during this time, and advise to plan journeys in advance as much as possible."
