A section of a busy road in Stoke-on-Trent is set to close for almost seven weeks.

Weston Road, between the junction for Park Hall Road and the city boundary at Leek Road, will be closed between 29 July and 13 September.

The road will be closed whilst Stoke-on-Trent City Council carry out "highway repair and maintenance works", comprising of carriageway reconstruction, alterations to drainage network and improvements to bus stop kerbing.

Councillor Finlay Gordon McCusker, cabinet member for transport, infrastructure and regeneration, said: "We are pleased that the much-needed highway repair and maintenance works being carried out at Weston Road will start towards the end of the month.

"To minimise disruption, we will carry out carriageway reconstruction, alterations to drains and improvements to bus stops all at the same time.

"To ensure these works are delivered safely, intermittent closures and traffic control measures will be put in place during this period, as well as diversions to guide motorists through alternative routes.

"We understand that these closures may be inconvenient for motorists and will do our best to ensure the disruption is kept to a minimum during this time. We would encourage you to allow extra time for journeys through this area and appreciate your patience and cooperation while we carry out these vital road improvements."
