Residents have slammed a "dangerous" Stoke-on-Trent street, which is littered with potholes leaving debris on the pavement. Beaconsfield Drive, in Blurton was only resurfaced in 2020 however now it is worse than ever.

The busy road has two schools located down it, Sutherland Primary Academy and Ormiston Sir Stanley Matthews Academy. The road is also used to access Finstock Avenue where both Blurton Medical Practice and Blurton Community Hub are located.

Julie Davis who has lived on the street for 35 years said this is the worst she has seen it and it seems to be getting worse. She commented: "It's terrible.

"I don't know if they've moved the gravel down by the shop but it's dangerous for anyone elderly or anything, it really is and once you get snow on it it's going to be even worse. It is the worst I've seen it and I've lived here for 35 years.

"It's horrendous and it seems to have gotten busier down here as well. What worries me is they come speeding down here and there are a lot of kids down here. It's an accident waiting to happen."

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has confirmed that repairs to the road will be carried out before the end of the financial year (LDRS).

Massive parts of the road are crumbling and leaving debris on the pavement outside Sutherland Primary Academy which has 519 pupils walking through the doors everyday. Parents waiting outside the school reported that due to the potholes both parents and children have been soaked.

The issue was first raised with Stoke-on-Trent City Council a number of years ago by Councillor Lorraine Beardmore, however in that time the problem has got much worse. Street cleansing teams have been out to clear debris from the pavements and outside of the school where it has been a particular issue,

Resident Yvonne Dean said: "It's all the way down, nobody gives a pig do they. You would have thought they would have done it before it gets any deeper. People like me who can't walk very well, if I was to step out of that gate and try to cross the road, I've had it."

In a statement Stoke-on-Trent City Council have confirmed that repairs to the road will be carried out before the end of the financial year. Cllr Amjid Wazir, cabinet member for city pride, enforcement, and sustainability advised: "Beaconsfield Drive road repairs will be completed before the end of the financial year.

"Works will include resurfacing between Church Road through to the junction with Finstock Avenue. We will send out street cleansing teams to clear any debris and we thank the residents who have reported this issue."
