The demolition of a former sheltered housing unit in Meir, Stoke-on-Trent, began this week.

In July 2023, Stoke-on-Trent City Council confirmed that five former sheltered housing units across the city would be demolished, including Doris Robinson Court in Meir.

Demolition work officially began on Wednesday 24 January and is expected to take around three months to complete.

The footpath next to Doris Robinson Court on Viscount Walk has been closed whilst the work takes place.

Councillor Chris Robinson, cabinet member for housing, regeneration and planning, said: "The footpath next to Doris Robinson Court has been closed for safety reasons while demolition takes place.

"The programme of work is being funded by £1.3 million of existing funds from the city council's HRA Account and is part of a wider scheme to demolish five decommissioned sheltered housing sites across the city".

The other units being demolished are Bennett Court in Longton, Union Court in Hanley, Newhouse Court in Abbey Hulton and Lily Gertrude Simister Court in Tunstall.
