Intake Road in Norton will be closed over the weekend as resurfacing works get underway.
However most residents were only told yesterday and that has left many wondering where they are going to park over the weekend.
Signs attached to street lights informing residents of the work were put up yesterday (Friday) and cones have been placed along the pavement preventing parking.
Chrissy Whitmore wonders where all the cars are going to go. She said: "It is not good notice but I think everyone will be glad when it's done and out of the way because it has been ongoing.
"They're going to get a magic wand and make the cars disappear for the weekend but it must be bad for them to work over the weekend."
Local councillors have been fighting vital resurfacing works to Intake Road and work was originally scheduled in May, however due to the local election were postponed.
An Intake road resident who did not want to be named commented: "They have only been out today and put the signs up, there has been no notice. This is a weekend, everyone is going to need to park their car and where are they going to park? This is going to cause chaos."
On Friday evening many cars were still parked on the street and many residents have been left wondering where they are going to park while work takes place.
Stephen Vyse has asked the council seven times for permission to install a drive in front of his house and has been rejected on every occasion.
He said: "I'm going to park my car somewhere. The trouble is wherever I park is going to inconvenience somebody else. I have lived here for four years and they have been out seven times to repair the road, it is a waste of taxpayers money."
Many residents were happy that work was actually going to be done. Resident Andrew Marsh said: "I'm just glad it is finally getting done.
"The road has been bad around here. I think we could have had more time to prepare for it but it is going to be one weekend where it is bad but the road will be done."
Councillor Dave Evans (Con, Baddeley, Milton and Norton) has today welcomed the news and said roads have always been a priority.
The community leader added: "It's really positive to see the roads resurfaced in Norton, along with Cllr Carl Edwards, I have been reporting issues here to the council for a number of years.
"Along with backing more money consistently for highways, the condition of roads in our patch has always been our priority."
Stoke-on-Trent City Council has been approached for comment.
