A popular supermarket has been given the green light to open a new store in Stoke-on-Trent.

Earlier this year, Randhawa Property Group applied for permission to replace a vacant building on Ford Green Road with a retail unit, to be occupied by Tesco.

The existing restaurant on the site would be demolished and replaced with a single storey store with an ATM machine and associated parking.

A total of 18 parking spaces are proposed for the site, including two EV charging points and two disabled spaces.

A Design and Access Statement, submitted as part of the application, states: "The existing building is a currently vacant two-storey building and the car park was previously used as car wash.

"The existing vacant unit is worn-out and in need of refurbishment and to be upgraded if it is to have a sustainable future.

"The proposal is for demolition of existing vacant unit to enable it to trade as food store (Tesco), modification to the car parking layout and other associated site works.

"The proposal aims to demolish the vacant unit to create a well designed and modern food retail space."

The plans were approved on 30 August (Image via planning application).

These plans were approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council on 30 August.

An Officer's Report states: "The proposed development would be located in a Local Centre area, which is appropriate for new retail uses.

"The design of the scheme enhances the surrounding built form and would not cause harm to the amenities of the surrounding residential properties.

"The proposal is acceptable on highway grounds and would not have an adverse impact upon ecology, flooding/drainage, air quality, contaminated land or the coal mining legacy of the site."
