Death of woman on Stoke-on-Trent street being treated as 'unexplained'

Staffordshire Police are appealing for anyone with information about the death of a woman in Hanley in the early hours of yesterday morning (1 September) to get in touch.

Police were called around 4.15am to reports of a body found on Foundry Street. Officers attempted CPR but sadly a woman in her 50s was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Detectives are treating the death as unexplained at this time and no arrests have been made.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Local officers are making enquiries with nearby residents and businesses and you will see an increased level of police in the area to help with intelligence gathering and to provide reassurance to the local community.

"Anyone who may have witnessed anything out of the ordinary in the area overnight or has information about the incident should call 101 quoting incident number 114 of 1 September."
