A popular Stoke-on-Trent pub is set to host a family fun day this weekend, all in aid of a local charity.

The Saracens Head, in Meir, is aiming to raise funds for Headcases Staffordshire, which supports people with, or recovering from, head and neck cancer.

There will be raffles, charity bingo, play your cards right, a BBQ and bouncy castle (weather depending) and artisan craft stalls.

Lisa Nicol, who attends support groups hosted by Headcases, said: "This charity is very close to our hearts. They helped my husband and I through the darkest time, emotionally and mentally, when my husband John was diagnosed with tonsil cancer seven years ago.

"Thankfully, John has been in remission for six years now. Headcases hold a meeting on the 1st Wednesday of every month. We chat about anything and everything but foremost they raise money for vital equipment for the cancer unit at Royal Stoke and County hospitals."

Paul Kelly, treasurer at Headcases, said: "Thank all the Nurse Specialists, Dietitians and Speech & Language therapists who regularly attend our monthly meetings. They give up their evenings, often travelling long distances to lend us their support.

"Whilst in clinic, they introduce patients to Headcases as a support group. Their presence at our meetings benefits the group in many ways and Headcases wouldn't exist without them as it was a CNS, Wendy Robson (now retired) who started the group up in the first place."

The event will take place at The Saracens Head, Sandon Road, between 12pm and 5pm on Saturday 24 August.
