Police have secured a court order to kick out a nightmare tenant following a police investigation into reports of anti-social behaviour and associated criminality.

The property in Cross Heath, Newcastle-under-Lyme was slapped with a closure notice on Tuesday 28 March for three months, which prohibits any person from entering the premises.

Any person entering the property except Aspire Housing runs the risk of being arrested and jailed or fined.

A notice on the boarded up property on Roberts Avenue reads: "A person commits an offence if they remain on or enters this premises and can be arrested.

"This premises has been sealed and no further entry will be allowed except to Aspire Housing or their agents."

Any person entering the property risks being arrested or fined (LDR).

This means that the current tenant will need to find suitable alternative accommodation and can't return to the property.

Neighbours have been reluctant to comment on the ongoing situation with many residents reporting that they don't know what has gone on or don't want to make a comment.

One resident who spoke to the LDRS on the condition that they wouldn't be named said: "As I understand it the woman who lived there had a drug problem. It had been going on for some time, I just hope they get the help they need."

The closure order is set to last for three months meaning the property can't be accessed until 27 June 2023.

Chief Inspector John Owen, of Newcastle-under-Lyme Local Policing Team, said: "A property closure order is one of the many tools used by local officers to deal with problem addresses and tenants, who are having a detrimental impact on the community.

"Everyone deserves to feel safe and happy in their home and no one should be subjected to continued anti-social behaviour.

"I hope that this successful application gives confidence to local residents that we will listen and act upon their concerns to deal with those that cause us the most issues."
