Staffordshire Police has named a man from Stoke-on-Trent who has been charged after a 51-year-old pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run in April.

Leon Salt, 20, has been charged with multiple offences and is due to appear at North Staffordshire Justice Centre today (20 June).

Christopher Deaville died as a result of his injuries on 11 April after he was hit by a car on Newcastle Lane in Penkhull.

Staffordshire Police had previously launched an investigation into a black Mini Cooper found abandoned in an alleyway near Birks Street, just over a mile from the scene and today police have confirmed Salt has been charged.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said the 20-year-old had been charged with "causing death by dangerous driving, handling stolen goods, driver of a vehicle failing to stop after a road accident, driver of a vehicle involved in a road accident fail to report that accident, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

"Salt was also charged with a series of other offences relating to separate incidents.

"He was charged with escape from lawful custody, driving a motor vehicle dangerously, handling stolen goods, driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving a motor vehicle without third party insurance and two counts of assault by beating of an emergency worker. "

The force says specialist officers are continuing to support Christopher's family.
