Police make arrest after two bikers tried to steal phones in Stoke-on-Trent park

Officers from Staffordshire Police have arrested a man after two motorbike riders sped through a park in Stoke-on-Trent in an attempt to steal mobile phones.
One of the men evaded the police after officers were called to Hanley's Central Forest Park just before 2pm last Wednesday (23 April) and a 19-year-old man from Bucknall was arrested.
The 19-year-old is suspected of stealing the motorbike, attempted theft, driving dangerously and failing to stop for a police officer.
Staffordshire Police are still trying to identify the second man and have released the teenager under investigation.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers were called to Hanley Forest Park just before 2pm on Wednesday (23 April) following reports of two men on motorbikes attempting to steal people's phones.
"Officers pursued two men. One made off and the other was stopped on Cromer Road, Birches Head.
"A 19-year-old man, from Bucknall, Stoke-on-Trent, has been arrested on suspicion of taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, failing to stop when required by an officer, attempted theft and driving a motor vehicle dangerously.
"He has been released under investigation whilst our enquiries continue.
"Our enquiries to identify the second man are ongoing."
