Staffordshire Police officers are investigating a suspicious incident which saw a mother and a child being shouted at by individuals in a van in Stoke-on-Trent.

Police were called at 11.40am yesterday (25 April) to Chell Heath Road.

A woman reported that she was walking with her child when a man and a female passenger pulled up in a white Citreon Relay van.

The male driver asked the woman for the time before claiming that the child was his.

There was no physical contact between the individuals in the van and the mother and child.

Police are appealing for anyone with any information to get in touch (Google).

The mother and child left the scene on foot to a place of safety.

They were left shaken but unhurt in the incident.

Officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage of the area at the time and are conducting local patrols to reassure the community.

Anyone who saw what happened or who may have relevant dashcam footage is asked to contact Staffordshire Police on 101, via LiveChat on the website or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

UPDATE: The man has now been arrested for public order offences and remains in police custody.
