Drivers are being warned of up to 30-minute delays this morning as a 'police incident' has shut a stretch of the A500.

The D-Road northbound, towards Talke, is currently closed at Porthill and the southbound carriageway has now reopened, after also being closed by police earlier this morning.

Drivers are being warned of delays of up to 30 minutes travelling southbound, towards Wolstanton, as traffic has built up due to the earlier closure.

Officers from Staffordshire Police are still at the scene and the northbound carriageway, towards Talke, remains closed meaning motorists are having to find alternative routes.

National Highways said: "The A500 remains closed northbound within A5271 junction Middleport, Stoke-on-Trent due to a Staffordshire Police led incident.

"Southbound - all lanes are now open.

"Diversion via the entry/exit slip roads to leave/rejoin at A5271 junction.

"Delays of approx. 30 mins, southbound + 10 mins north."

UPDATE: Man dies on A500 in Stoke-on-Trent
