A pedestrian died after a collision with a lorry on the A500 in Stoke-on-Trent this morning.

Police and paramedics were alerted to the incident on the D-Road at around 4:30am today (29 July) and a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Staffordshire Police confirmed the man, in his 20s, "is believed to have fallen from the Porthill overbridge and collided with a white articulated LGV travelling northbound".

The A500 was shut in both directions at Porthill this morning following the incident and all lanes had been reopened by 10am. Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were set to the scene along with officers from Staffordshire Police.

A spokesperson for the West Midlands Ambulance Service added: "Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a pedestrian and a lorry had been involved in a collision.

"Sadly, it quickly became clear that the pedestrian, a man, could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene."

Specialist officers are supporting the man's family and Staffordshire Police's Collision Investigation Unit is seeking witnesses.

Anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the collision or saw either the LGV or the man beforehand is asked to call 101 quoting incident 88 of 29 July, or contact police using Live Chat on the Staffordshire Police website.

To report anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
