An application has been submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council for permission to transform a house in Longton into a new residential care home for children.
66 Kendrick Street is currently a three-bedroom family home but the applicant, New Focus Housing, wants to convert the property into a care home for children with behavioural, emotional or learning disabilities.
The house would provide medium to long-term accommodation for two children aged between 8 and 17.
The new care home would take on seven full-time employees and three new parking spaces would be created specifically for the property.
There has been increased local demand for small children's care homes within Stoke-on-Trent and this issue has led to the council seeking to drastically increase its number of children's homes to help address the rising number of children and young people needing care.
A decision is expected regarding these plans in the coming months.
