Plans to transform a former betting shop in Stoke-on-Trent into a new restaurant have been withdrawn after only eight weeks.

Last month, Mr P Sergeant applied for permission to change the use of the ground floor of 376 Blurton Road, Blurton, from a betting shop to a restaurant.

The unit, which was previously occupied by Coral, currently has six parking spaces and no changes to this were planned.

According to planning documents, the new eatery would have created ten jobs and operated between 11am and 10.30pm seven days a week.

In just under eight weeks, a total of 46 objections were submitted on the planning application and a petition against the plans was signed 116 times.

One resident said: "I would like to object to the change of use for the previous bookies on Blurton Road.

"We don't need a cafe/restaurant as we have plenty of food facilities in the area, and also the parking area is too small and we will be having blocked drives again.

"Some of us near to said building are of good age and retire early; we don't want the noise from slamming car doors and people shouting their goodbyes."

"Another resident said: "I don't think that this should be allowed as there is a takeaway seven doors up and it will affect their livelihood.

"There is a Subway and Greggs and shops around that sell food,I just don't think a restaurant would work in Blurton you've got to think fairly about other people's lives, jobs, families etc."
