Plans to open a brand-new care home for children on a Meir street have been submitted to Stoke-on-Trent City Council.

New Will Care Ltd has applied for permission for a property on Shinwell Grove, Meir, to be used as a care home for one child between the age of seven and 17.

The property is currently vacant and the applicant wants to use it as a care home due to an "urgent need for children and young adults to be taken out of larger scaled institutional environment into what is equivalent to Care in the Community".

Carers will be present at the property 24 hours a day with two working overnight (Nub News).

There will be carers present at the residence 24 hours a day, working on a shift pattern with two people staying at the property overnight.

New Will Care Ltd has specified that the home would not be taking in children with severe learning difficulties or medical needs.

The home would be refurbished and have two bedrooms (one for the child and one for carers), a lounge, dining area, kitchen and bathroom.

A decision is expected regarding these plans in the coming months.
