A new specialist school could open on a busy road in Stoke-on-Trent, if plans are given the green light by the city council.

Beechfield Education Ltd is intending to rent 240 City Road, formerly Bobbles Day Nursery, and has applied for the "change of use to school (Use Class F1)".

According to the planning application, the new school would "provide an extension for Kaleidoscope Independent Special School, Porthill Lodge, Wolstanton to accommodate 30 pupils."

The new school would accommodate 30 pupils with approximately 30 staff (Nub News).

A Planning Statement says: "The existing internal layout would not need to be altered to accommodate the proposed use. There would be no alterations to the building externally.

"Kaleidoscope currently has 30 pupils on role, many of which have been placed with us by Stoke-on-Trent Local Authority. Due to the increasing demand for places within the city, we would like to open an additional site at 240 City Road. This will be to accommodate a further 30 pupils with approximately 30 staff.

"The staff will park on the carpark attached to Fenton Community Hall. We have agreed a lease for this car park. This is also where parents will be parking to then walk their child to the front of the building.

The former nursery is currently available to let for £37,000 per annum (Nub News).

"Any children arriving in taxis will be able to access the front of the building directly by parking in the allocated spots and being escorted into the building by staff. Children make use of the taxis in groups, so these vehicles will be minimal.

"The children will initially be aged 4-10 but as the children age and develop this will go up to 16 depending on the child's needs."
