Plans for a huge new care home off a major road in Stoke-on-Trent have been submitted to the local council.

SH Care Stoke Ltd has submitted a planning application for the "construction of a 3/4 storey building providing 56 extra care apartments and seven supported housing apartments and construction of a three-storey 70 bed residential care home" on land off Joiners Square, Lichfield Street, Hanley.

The 1.23 hectares site was formerly home to Endeka Ceramics Ltd but the buildings have since been demolished.

The vacant site could become home to a new care home and supported housing apartments (Image via planning application).

A Planning Statement explains: "On a national basis the population age is increasing yet there are only limited places available in care and dementia accommodation in the face of rising demand. The proposals aim to address this by providing a 70 place care home and 63 extra care / supported housing apartments.

"The Care Home is to accommodate 70 frail / elderly residents, with shared lounge and dining facilities to promote small group living with a domestic feel. The building layout has been set in such a way to provide "neighbourhoods" of residents which can be further subdivided into smaller groups to reflect the needs of residents, particularly in relation to caring for people with dementia.

"These neighbourhoods are ordered over the three accommodation levels with activity rooms, lounges, hairdresser, café, cinema, gym, dining rooms and quiet rooms located for ease of access for all residents."

The 1.23 hectares site was formerly home to Endeka Ceramics Ltd (Image via planning application).

The site would also have four disability spaces, 20 cycle spaces and 49 car parking spaces as well as internal roads, access off Lichfield Street and associated landscaping.

The new facility would employ 80 full-time members of staff.

The full planning application can be viewed here.
