Plans put forward for apartments on derelict land in Stoke-on-Trent

Plans have been submitted to build affordable apartments on the site of a former sheltered housing complex in Tunstall.
The city council's planning application proposes three two-storey blocks on land at Wesley Street, containing 14 one-bedroom two-person apartments in total.
The site was previously home to Lily Gertrude Simister Court, which was demolished in 2023.
In June plans for the proposed redevelopment of the site went on show at Tunstall Town Hall as part of a public engagement exercise.
Five people took part in the survey, a document submitted as part of the planning application stated. It added: "Out of these responses, 100% felt there was a need for new, high-quality housing in Stoke-on-Trent.
"One resident suggested that maybe a mixture of one and two-bed properties would be useful for young single people with children, and people with disabilities, as it is close to local amenities and public transport.
"Overall, the comments and discussions were positive.
"Attendees were happy with the design of the proposed development, particularly that parking spaces and green space have been considered as part of the overall proposed layout.
"They were happy that a site that had been vacant for a while, and could potentially attract anti-social behaviour and fly tipping, was going to be brought back into use.
"The main concerns were around the allocation and management of the properties, querying 'who will be living there?' and 'who will maintain them?' Attendees were advised that properties would be allocated in line with the council's current allocation policy to applicants on our housing register."
