Plans for a new care home on a residential street in Stoke-on-Trent have been refused by the city council.

The applicant, Turnstone Housing Ltd, applied for permission to transform a residential property on Seaton Close, Lightwood, into a residential care home and build two extensions.

The company said: "We are proposing a change of use for the domestic dwelling located at Seaton Close, Stoke-on-Trent, to a residential home.

The plans were refused by Stoke-on-Trent City Council this week (Nub News).

"As providers of supported living services in Stoke, Turnstone Housing Ltd have identified a pressing need, confirmed by commissioners, for residential services catering to citizens requiring a more structured and supportive environment.

"The proposed change of use seeks to address this gap by repurposing the existing dwelling into a residential home that offers structured support, supervision and care for its residents.

"The facility will be staffed by trained professionals who specialise in providing tailored care plans to meet the unique needs of each resident."

Concerns were raised over parking facilities, visual amenity and overdevelopment (Nub News).

The proposed plans show the facility would have seven bedrooms, a shared living and kitchen area and space for three cars on the driveway.

The plans were rejected by Stoke-on-Trent City Council this week after a number of objections and concerns were raised.

An Officer's Report states: "It is considered that the cumulative impact of the overall proposals would result in detriment to visual amenity and overdevelopment of the existing dwelling; an overintensive use of an existing residential dwelling to the detriment of residential amenity and character of the existing area, together with concerns that the proposals would be unable to provide adequate off street parking to the detriment of highway safety in the area."
