Plan proposed to redevelop vacant pub building in Stoke-on-Trent

A former pub building in Tunstall could be redeveloped as flats, an office and a retail unit if the plans are approved by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
Caldmore Residential Ltd have submitted plans to turn The Barrel pub building on Tower Square, into four one-bedroom flats, two offices and a retail unit.
The application states: "The application is for the conversion of the existing public house into 4 flats, 2 retail units, and 1 office unit, with associated works.
The Barrel, formerly known as the Crown and Anchor Inn, was listed for auction in June 2024 with a price tag of £200,000.
As well as the pub, the full L-shaped site is comprised of two former retail units and a storage unit on the ground floor. There are also two flats upstairs which have been knocked together.
It is believed parts of the building date back to the early 19th century with the L-shaped building appearing on a map in 1832 but it's possible there may be remnants of a pre-1820 building within the current premises.
The site is within the Tower Square Conservation Area, but the building has been substantially altered since it's early 19th-century origins, according to the application.
The application is subject to approval by Stoke-on-Trent City Council.
