A petition for a new pedestrian crossing on a busy junction in Stoke-on-Trent has hit 1,000 signatures, meaning it will now be presented to the local council.

Pedestrian crossing facilities are proposed at the junction in Weston Coyney where Parkhall Road and Caverswall Road meet Weston Road.

Started by Craig Royce, the petition has 1,085 signatures and residents have until 1 April to sign.

Craig told Nub News: "I'm petitioning to get the cross roads by Bargain Booze in Weston Coyney a pedestrianised crossing via a four-way push button system."

Craig has also met with Allison Gardener and Jack Brereton MP, both of which are wholly supportive of the proposals.

The petition now has over 1,000 signatures, meaning it will be presented to the local council (Nub News).

Jack Brereton MP wrote on social media: "Glad to meet today with local resident Craig Royce who is petitioning for greater safety measures to be put in place at Weston Coyney crossroads.

"I was also joined by Stoke-on-Trent City Council including Cllr. Ross Irving and local residents who have expressed concerns about safety of the crossroads.

"I know this is a major concern locally given the more that 1,000 people who have already signed Craig's petition. We particularly discussed the need for better crossing facilities for pedestrians who currently find it very difficult to cross and the dangers caused by people driving through on red."
